Penzance Tennis Club has recently appointed Martin Coates as its new Tennis Manager. Martin will lead the current coaching team of Luke Dews, Keith Songhurst, Sammy Bassett and various coaching assistants and will be overseeing the development, promotion and management of all aspects of tennis activities at Penlee Park.
Having been involved in tennis from the age of 6 years and having represented his home county of Suffolk from junior right through to senior level Martin is vastly experienced. He has been coaching tennis for 20 years and is highly qualified.
Martin has coached tennis at every level and has gained a broad knowledge of all areas of the sport. His ambition is now to make the Penzance club a better and even more popular venue for both hobby and performance players from all over West Cornwall.
Free taster sessions, information evenings, specific coaching sessions for adults and juniors and increased links with local schools, hotels and leisure centres are only a few items on Martin’s list to promote the sport in Penzance. He is also planning to set up a performance academy for talented players and foster the relationship with the Cornish Lawn Tennis Association. The new Tennis Manager’s role at Penzance will be to bring the club together more, increase membership and raise the profile of the club. Being a highly rated player himself Martin is looking forward to representing the club on court as well as off and develop a year-round social programme for both adults and juniors.
Anyone who would like to meet Martin and become involved in tennis can contact him via his e-mail address mjctennis@gmail.com, ring Penzance Tennis Club on 01736 367627 or ring Martin on his mobile 07787 124003.
